Elizabeth Loboa , dean of the MU College of Engineering , and her team recently tested new methods to make the process of tissue engineering more cost effective and producible in larger quantities.

Tissues could help patients suffering from wounds caused by diabetes and circulation disorders, patients in need of cartilage or bone repair and to women who have had mastectomies by replacing their breast tissue. In typical tissue engineering approaches that use fibers as scaffolds, nonwoven materials are often bonded together using an electrostatic field. This process, called electrospinning, creates the scaffolds needed to attach to stem cells; however, large-scale production is not cost-effective.

Therefore, we sought to test methods that could standardize the process. So, we investigated the processes that create textiles, such as clothing and window furnishings like drapery, to scale up the manufacturing process.

Loboa worked with Stephen A. The group published a pair of papers using three common textile creation methods — meltblowing, spunbonding and carding — to determine if these methods would create the materials needed to mimic native tissue. Meltblowing is a technique during which nonwoven materials are created using a molten polymer to create continuous fibers.

Spunbond materials are made much the same way but the fibers are drawn into a web while in a solid state instead of a molten one. Carding involves the separation of fibers through the use of rollers, forming the web needed to hold stem cells in place.

Loboa and her colleagues tested these techniques to create polylactic acid PLA scaffolds, a Food and Drug Administration-approved material used as collagen fillers, seeded with human stem cells.

Results showed that the three textile manufacturing methods proved as viable if not more so than electrospinning. Next steps include testing how the different scaffolds created in the three methods perform once implanted in animals.

Here, nonwoven fabrics of Gel were electrospun by applying the principles of dry spinning. The diameter of the fibers and the viscosity and flow rate of the solution were directly dependent on the concentration of Gel. In order to improve the properties of the nonwoven fabrics, they were cross-linked with glutaraldehyde GTA vapor after spinning or by the addition of N-acetyl-d-glucosamine GlcNAc to the Gel solution prior to spinning followed by heating these fibers. The nonwoven fabrics cross-linked by the GTA vapor exhibited improved mechanical properties compared to those without cross-linking or with GlcNAc cross-linking. The swelling and water uptake ability resulted in no morphological changes in the fibers with GTA cross-linking. The TGA thermogram confirmed no phase change in the composite structure. Further, in vitro cytocompatibility studies using human mesenchymal stem cells showed the compatible nature of the developed nonwoven fibers.

In the past two decades, research on electrospinning has boomed due to its simple process, small fiber diameter, and special physical and chemical properties. The electrospun fiber is spontaneously collected in a non-woven status in most cases. Therefore, the electrospinning method is becoming an ideal candidate for non-woven fabric manufacturing on a nano scale. More than 50, research papers have been published linked to the concept of "electrospinning", and the number is still increasing rapidly.

Non-woven polypropylene fabrics are among the most versatile materials we have in the market today. The materials are different from the other substrates and fabrics made by weaving, knitting, and other processes as they are engineered to meet the customers diverse demand requirements. It mainly consisted by polypropylene material, some sorts of thick non woven material will add cotton and polyester material in,pp non woven fabric will decompose naturally if placed outdoors, non woven polypropylene material its maximum life period is only 90 days,If place indoor non woven fabric life time lasts 5 years,When burning, it is non-toxic, odorless and without any residual substances unless dust, so non woven cloth does not pollute the environment. Therefore, we say non woven polypropylene is Eco-friendly. The term non-fabric polypropylene fabric is mostly used in the textile manufacturing industry to refer to materials that are neither knitted nor woven. Polypropylene is currently the best raw material to manufacture non-wooden fabrics. So, why is the non-woven propylene material so popular? Popularity is contributed by its several benefits such as: Low cost :The initial purchasing cost of the non-woven polypropylene material is more economical as compared to the woven materials. Stability and moderate strength,The flexibility makes it easy to mold the material into different shapes and sizes, non woven fabric manufacturer makes it in roll.

Keywords: Wetlace ; fiber technology ; sliver nanoparticles ; antibacterial activity. The wetlace nonwoven fabric was formed by wet-laid and spunlace reinforcement process [ 1 , 2 ]. Compared with traditional fabrics, wetlace nonwoven fabric exhibits high generation speed and possess sufficient softness, flexibility and conformability, making it widely applied in moist wipes and biomedical field [ 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 ]. The traditional wetlace nonwovens often contain entangled synthetic fibers, leading to difficulty in degradation.

Nanotechnology Reviews

Polyurethane PU nanofibers were fabricated by solution blowing. The effects of polymer concentration, gas pressure and temperature on morphology and diameter of fiber were discussed. The results show that the fiber with mean diameters in nm- nm range was successfully obtained, and when the mass fraction of the solution increases, the diameter of the fiber increases. On the whole, the evenness of the fiber diameter tends to decrease.

Nonwoven fabric

Non-woven fabric is a fabric -like material made from staple fibre short and long fibres continuous long , bonded together by chemical, mechanical, heat or solvent treatment. The term is used in the textile manufacturing industry to denote fabrics, such as felt , which are neither woven nor knitted. In recent years, non-woven have become an alternative to polyurethane foam.

The most significant feature of nonwoven fabric is made directly from fibers in a continuous production line. While manufacturing nonwovens, some conventional textile operations, such as carding, drawing, roving, spinning, weaving or knitting, are partially or completely eliminated. For this reason the choice of fiber is very important for nonwoven manufacturers.
