For much of the 20th century, asbestos cement sheets provided builders with a rugged solution for simple roofing and siding projects. While these products were cheap to manufacture and buy, their true cost emerged years later in the form of deadly asbestos-related illnesses. Fibrous cement sheets are more durable than drywall and easier to work with than concrete, and they have numerous applications in construction. Today, the fibers in cement sheets are usually made of cellulose, a substance found in plants, but for the first eight decades after fibrous cement sheets were invented, they were primarily made with asbestos. Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that can be fluffed into a wooly consistency and mixed into building materials such as cement. Adding asbestos makes cement more durable, weatherproof and heat resistant, and because asbestos cement sheets are fireproof, builders initially considered them a much safer material than wood.

Cold storage is a temperature — controlled supply chain network, with storage and distribution activities carried out in a manner such that the temperature of a product is maintained in a specified range, needed to keep it fresh and edible for a much longer period than in normal ambient conditions. A cold chain can be managed by a quality management system generally called as warehouse management.
The Indian Government focus on incentivizing the manufacturing sector is the key to growth of warehousing. With the growth of the domestic manufacturing and retail segments, the demand for efficient warehouse management service has improved. The current scenario reveals that there is a tremendous scope for the development of cold chain facilities. The cold chain industry is recognized as a sunrise sector in India and is expected to offer significant opportunities in the near future.
Developing an integrated supply chain, including cold chain can save up to billion annually and at the same time reduce the wastage of perishable horticulture produce. This handbook is designed to provide a thorough understanding and analysis of the cold chain industry and warehouse management. It will be a standard reference book for professionals, entrepreneurs, food technologists, those studying and researching in this important area.

Asbestos is widely regarded as a silent killer which can go often unnoticed, and the idea of its presence in the building surrounding you is enough to create feelings of uneasiness and concern. If you are the building owner then there is an additional responsibility involved as you could be held culpable for the effects of the substance. The dangers of the mineral have been well documented over the years and it has now been 15 years since the substance was completely banned from use in UK construction. So what does this mean for building owners today and what are the current laws surrounding it?

Asbestos is the generic term for a group of naturally occurring fibrous minerals with high tensile strength, flexibility, and resistance to thermal, chemical and electrical conditions. Asbestos fibers are of high-tensile strength, flexible, heat and chemical resistance, and good frictional properties. Cement is the most essential raw material in any kind of construction activity. Ceramics also known as fire clay is an inorganic, non-metallic solid article, which is produced by the art or technique of heat and subsequent cooling. Limestone is a sedimentary rock, mainly composed of calcium carbonate CaCO3. It is the principal source of crushed stone for construction, transportation, agriculture, and industrial uses.

All are composed of long and thin fibrous crystals , each fiber being composed of many microscopic 'fibrils' that can be released into the atmosphere by abrasion and other processes. Asbestos is an excellent electrical insulator and is highly resistant to heat, so for many years it was used as a building material. Inhalation of asbestos fibres can lead to various serious lung conditions, including asbestosis and cancer. Archaeological studies have found evidence of asbestos being used as far back as the Stone Age to strengthen ceramic pots, but large-scale mining began at the end of the 19th century when manufacturers and builders began using asbestos for its desirable physical properties. Asbestos was widely used during the 20th century until the s when public recognition of the health hazards of asbestos dust led to its outlawing in mainstream construction and fireproofing in most countries. Despite the severity of asbestos-related diseases, the material has been used widely all around the world, and most pres buildings are thought to contain asbestos. It was adopted via the Old French abestos, which in turn got the word from Greek via Latin , but in the original Greek, it actually referred to quicklime. It is said by the Oxford English Dictionary to have been wrongly used by Pliny for asbestos, who popularized the misnomer. Asbestos was referred to in Greek as amiantos , meaning "undefiled", because it was not marked when thrown into a fire.

Asbestos cement is mainly a mixture of chrysotile white asbestos and cement, moulded and compressed to produce a range of asbestos cement products.
When mixed with cement to produce roof tiles and water pipes, the products are high quality and economical. Dusts or airborne fibres including glass fibre, synthetic fibre, chrysotile fibre, stone dust, gasoline fume, exhaust fume, all are dangerous, if workers inhale and are exposed to them for a long period of time. However, the processing of chrysotile fibre as a raw material in manufacturing factories is properly controlled and thus, poses no risks to workers.
