The SYNFAB project has delivered improved MAG welding technology to the fabrication industry, which enables higher deposition rates, deeper penetration and reduced fabrication costs, without compromising weld properties. What is more, SYNFAB demonstrates how this may be achieved without the need to invest in expensive and specialist welding equipment. Two generic types of tandem MAG welding were identified. The first with arc spacing of approximately 6 mm, a design on which most commercially available synchronised tandem MAG welding equipment is based; and the second with arc spacing above With spacing below 10 mm, synchronisation of pulses was required, otherwise the arcs would interact and become unstable.

High quality optical components for consumer products made of glass and plastic are mostly fabricated by replication. This highly developed production technology requires several consecutive, well-matched processing steps called a "process chain" covering all steps from mold design, advanced machining and coating of molds, up to the actual replication and final precision measurement of the quality of the optical components. Current market demands for leading edge optical applications require high precision and cost effective parts in large volumes. For meeting these demands it is necessary to develop high quality process chains and moreover, to crosslink all demands and interdependencies within these process chains. The Transregional Collaborative Research Center "Process chains for the replication of complex optical elements" at Bremen, Aachen and Stillwater worked extensively and thoroughly in this field from to

Increasingly complex equipment is the norm on the shop floors of today. He has covered the industry for seven years. A McGill University graduate, he has written for a variety of industries, including manufacturing, medical, property management, green business, and accounting. Luminoso has a bachelor of arts from Carleton University, a bachelor of education from Ottawa University, and a graduate certificate in book, magazine, and digital publishing from Centennial College.
The group included an increase of first-time exhibitors compared to previous events and international representatives from as far as Australia. Complex insulating glass units, particularly oversized units, present a growing challenge for fabricators, according to Roland Rossmann, project manager and leader at Garibaldi Glass Industries. Rossmann leads the IGMA task group dedicated to addressing design considerations for oversized insulating glass units. During the Technical Policy Committee meeting, the PIB Migration task group continued its work on developing a report that addresses the use of polyisobutylene PIB as a primary sealant in insulating glass units. The document will address the concern of PIB migration. During the meetings, the group also provided updates, and continued work, on its various education, certification and technical activities. The event offers both classroom and hands-on education from a group of industry experts who lead attendees through all aspects of fabricating and testing IGs, from cleaning and cutting, to gas fill and frost point.

Novel digital fabrication platforms enable the design and construction of materially sophisticated structures with high spatial resolution in manufacturing. However, virtual-to-physical workflows and their associated software environments are yet to incorporate such capabilities. Our research setsthe stage for seamless physical feedback workflows across media, disciplines and scales. As preliminary methods we have developed four computational strategies for the design and digital construction of custom systems. These methods are presented in the context of specific design challenges and include a biologically drivenfiber construction algorithm; an anatomically driven shell-to-wearable translation protocol; an environmentally-driven swarm printing system; and a manufacturing-driven hierarchical fabrication platform. We discuss and analyze these four challenges in terms of their capabilities to integrate design across media, disciplines and scales through concepts such as multi-dimensionality, media-informed computation and trans-disciplinary data.
